Company History

Founding MelKay.

Melvin Kallenbach founded MelKay back in 1951 with the goal of providing electrical services to businesses in the Tri-State area. Under his leadership, MelKay became one of Southern Indiana’s leading electrical contractors, providing electrical services to many major industrial, commercial, and institutional clients.

Continuing MelKay’s Tradition.

In 2004, Melvin Kallenbach’s daughter, Linda Garrett, assumed the helm of MelKay as president of the company. With more than 30 years of experience in the business and trained by her father, Linda continued the company’s tradition of providing top-quality electrical contracting for the commercial, institutional, and industrial sector.

Becoming an MEP Company.

In 2016, Linda Garrett’s son, Scott Hartig, took over as MelKay’s president. Now, MelKay has grown from an electrical contractor into a full MEP company. In 2018, MelKay added the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) division, and soon after in 2019, iron workers, millwrights, operators, and pipe-fitters were added to our team. Our newest addition has been the plumbing division, which was added in 2020.
